Interview with Kavita Jain, Owner of We Rock the Spectrum

Can you tell me a little about We Rock the Spectrum?

We Rock the Spectrum is a sensory-based gym for kids of all abilities to come together to play and learn. We emphasize play with a purpose; intentionally picking equipment to engage all seven senses. We have an arts and crafts area and an imagination station for pretend play, which fosters social skills and language development.

We aim to build community by building a supportive environment where the staff have personal connections to the special needs community and everyone can just be themselves without having to worry about what others are thinking.

Our location will also have drop-in respite care, and Parents’ Nights Out, and support groups.

What is your role there and what made you want to get involved?

I’m the owner of the Rivergate location and also the mom of a neuro-diverse child myself. He’s our inspiration.

Are there activities for someone with mobility impairments?

Yes. Our facility meets all of the ADA requirements. Individuals with mobility impairments can utilize the swings and pretend play areas and do arts and crafts. We are willing and able to provide accommodations when needed.

Can I bring my child’s typical sibling as well?

Yes- inclusion is at the core of what we do!

Are there quiet places for a child who is overstimulated to regulate?

Yes, we have a calming room. It’s a quiet little room with muted lighting that has beanbags, fidgets, and sensory toys for this purpose.
